maya's first blog...

how exciting.

(cough. splutter.)

is anybody actually going to read this? hello?

actually, i'm trying to think of some cutting edge web site that has piqued my interest of late, but i can't.

hmm, in fact, allow me to go the other way - as much as i love websites that use AJAX effectively - i want to let everybody know of my love for craigslist. i used to live in new york and this was the web site i visited most. it's how i found work, it's where i bought and sold just about everything. what's interesting is that it contains no fancy multimedia, just plain ol' HTML. so yes, this is a good place to start this blog: a barebones bulletin board that shows just how effective HTML continues to be.

if anyone knows of a similar site that is popular for sydney-siders, do tell...

Hi,
Have you even checked out gumtree.com.au. The design is a little more fancy but it is a similar bulletin board concept. I have always found it helpful (and if not helpful often entertaining).

Kat, thanks so much- gumtree appears to offer the same categories in a similar fashion. also, it's interesting to note that ebay has a stake in both craigslist and gumtree, but in comparing the two web sites, it seems to me that gumtree seems to be more overtly focused on generating revenue with "sponsored links" in the employment sections.

in any event, while the colour scheme and animated gifs may take me some getting used to, it might come in handy when i try to find my next contract job (and hopefully bypass pesky head-hunters).

thanks again for the link.
